Over the past 10 years, Geoff Herd has implemented and managed a POCT network in New Zealand across six hospitals, encompassing 140 testing devices, and is a New Zealand registered medical laboratory scientist.
In 2009, he was appointed as a technical expert in point-of-care testing for International Accreditation in New Zealand (which accredits New Zealand medical testing facilities against ISO 22870). Since 2013, Mr. Herd has published five POCT papers in peer-reviewed journals, is the author of two chapters in a textbook on POCT and has delivered many presentations on POCT at scientific meetings across South East Asia and New Zealand.
Mr. Herd's research interests focus on clinical governance and quality management system optimisation for POCT in hospital, remote and rural settings in an effort to improve patient access to care and to improve patient outcomes. Globally, Geoff Herd has been one of the first users of Abbott’s i-STAT Alinity instrument.
