Under de senaste 10 åren har Geoff Herd, registrerad medicinsk laboratorieforskare i Nya Zeeland, implementerat och hanterat ett PNA-nätverk omfattande 140 testanordningar på sex sjukhus i Nya Zeeland.
2009 utnämndes han till teknisk expert inom patientnära analyser för International Accreditation i Nya Zeeland (som ackrediterar Nya Zeelands medicinska testanläggningar mot ISO 22870). Sedan 2013 har Herd publicerat fem PNA-artiklar i vetenskapligt granskade tidskrifter, författat två kapitel i en PNA-lärobok och hållit många PNA-presentationer vid vetenskapliga konferenser i Sydostasien och Nya Zeeland.
Herds forskningsintressen fokuserar på klinisk styrning och optimering av kvalitetsstyrningssystem för patientnära analyser på sjukhus, på avlägsna orter och landsbygdsmiljöer i ett försök att förbättra patienters tillgång till vård och förbättra patientresultaten. Globalt har Geoff Herd varit en av de första användarna av Abbotts i-STAT Alinity-instrument.
