EXPANDING HIV POINT-OF-CARE TESTING: AN APPROACH TO SUPPORT ENDING THE HIV EPIDEMIC

Expanding HIV Point of Care Testing Expanding HIV Point of Care Testing Expanding HIV Point of Care Testing

Summary

There are approximately 1.2 million Americans that have HIV of which 13% do not know their HIV status. The underdiagnosed portion of the HIV community leads to an alarming 40% of the new infections. It is critical to reduce barriers to testing so that these people can be identified so as to further reduce transmission rates.

This webinar will discuss HIV testing in nontraditional settings as it not only improves access but may be the only option for some people to be tested due to limited healthcare options. Identification of new cases will not only reduce new HIV transmission, but will also improve medical outcomes by connecting individuals with early treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the current status of the HIV epidemic in the US and the importance of testing.
  • Define implementation strategies for near patient HIV testing.
  • With new prevention methods and new treatments, discuss how testing can lead to better health.
