Global Point of Care

Hospital Avoidance: Avoiding Hospital by Bringing the ED into the Community

Hospital Avoidance

Having critical point-of-care test results in the field can speed the start of targeted, lifesaving care at the scene for ground or air transport to facilitate real-time virtual collaboration with clinicians.

By using point-of-care testing, learn how the PRU:

  • reduce wait times
  • reduce costs
  • improve patients’ access to care

About Presenter

Having completed a senior clinical fellowship during higher specialty training in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Richard Muswell continued with the service in a new role that encompasses all things digital. From implementation of new equipment such as connected computing in the pre-hospital environment, to overseeing the PRU's part in the overarching LAA digital transformation, the role requires a significant understanding of the clinical needs of the service, combined with in-depth understanding of the technologies available.

Point-of-care investigations are at the heart of the PRU's clinical decision making and how PRU clinicians are able to reliably obtain, interpret in the context of other investigations, act on and communicate those results to other healthcare professionals is key in maximizing the service's input to their care.
