Summary

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains a leading cause of morbidity and hospitalization despite advances in diagnostics and therapeutics. This webinar will review key updates from the 2025 CAP guidelines, highlighting ongoing challenges in establishing etiology, optimizing antimicrobial selection, and individualizing duration of therapy. Through this session, participants will explore evidence-based strategies to improve diagnostic accuracy and clinical outcomes, particularly in patients with severe illness and multiple comorbidities.

Learning Objectives

  • Evaluate the current trends in the US for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
  • Review the diagnostic and treatment recommendations made in the updated 2025 CAP guidelines.
  • Define the most common pathogens for CAP with a focus on the importance of Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Instructions to Claim P.A.C.E.® Credits

  1. Access https://ceorganizer.ascls.org/.

  2. Select either Member or Non-Member log-in box.

    1. ASCLS members: Log in with the username and password used to enter the Members Section of the ASCLS website.
    2. Non-members:  click the “Register Here” link to create a username and password or use login with existing CE Organizer credentials
       
  3. Once logged in:

    1.  Click on “Claim Credit” tab at the top of the page.
    2. Click on “Other P.A.C.E. Programs” tab.
    3. Locate 618 Abbott ARDx and click “View Events”.
    4. Select the session attended by checking the teal box and scroll down to click “Next”.
    5. Enter the session code provided at the end of the webinar and click “Next”.
    6. Evaluate the session and click “Complete Survey”.
    7. Click “Download Certificate Now” to view, print, and save your certificate.
