Summary
As we enter another respiratory season, this webinar examines the continued evolution of COVID-19, the primary variants that are currently in circulation, as well as the long-term impacts of COVID-19 infections, many of which are not yet fully understood. Furthermore, as COVID-19 has entered into an endemic phase, this webinar highlights the importance of rapid point-of-care (POC) diagnostic testing to identify and differentiate the specific respiratory viral pathogens that are the cause of underlying respiratory symptoms, allowing for rapid and effective treatment decisions and improved patient care.
Dr. Deborah Birx
Title: Evolution of Respiratory Viruses - What to Expect this Fall and Winter and What We Still Don't Know About COVID-19
Learning Objectives:
- To understand how COVID-19 continues to evolve, and the primary COVID-19 variants that are currently in circulation
- To emphasize the continued importance of testing to diagnose respiratory infections, and to understand the populations that remain at highest risk for infection
- To understand the importance of differential diagnosis of respiratory viral infections to ensure access to critical treatment
- To understand the potential long-term risks of Long COVID-19 and repeated COVID-19 infections
Dr. Nancy Bellei
Title: Diagnosis and Management of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) in the post-COVID-19 Era Based on Clinical Scenarios
Learning Objectives:
- To understand how COVID-19 continues to evolve, and the primary COVID-19 variants that are currently in circulation
- To understand the guidelines and recommendations for the diagnosis of COVID-19, influenza, and RSV in different scenarios
- To explore the clinical practice, advantages/disadvantages of different diagnostic tests, and the best practices for implementing differential diagnostic testing
- To understand the impact of anti-microbial resistance (viral vs. bacterial) and the importance of rapid point-of-care (POC) testing
