Implementing High Sensitivity Troponin I: A Laboratory Led Approach to Chest Pain Evaluation

sepsis outcomes sepsis outcomes sepsis outcomes

Summary

Many organizations are beginning to explore Point of Care high sensitivity cardiac troponin testing. From the laboratory’s perspective, however, this transition represents a broader change initiative that impacts validation, reporting, clinician education, and how results are ultimately used in clinical decision making.  The change can be further complicated for facilities still using contemporary assays in the central lab. Addressing these elements thoughtfully can help support a smoother, more sustainable implementation.

This educational webinar will focus on:

  • The real world implementation of hs cTnI from a laboratory director’s perspective
  • How high‑sensitivity troponin I fits into chest pain evaluation and clinical decision‑making processes
  • Lessons learned, common challenges, and considerations for working with ED and cardiology colleagues when integrating hs cTnI into existing workflows.

The goal is for webinar attendees to learn from a laboratorian's perspective how change management, governance, communication, and pathway alignment were approached during implementation.

Learning Objectives

Following this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe laboratory and clinical considerations that influence chest pain assessment in the emergency department
  • Examine how high sensitivity troponin I fits into chest pain evaluation and clinical decision making processes
  • Identify key implementation considerations for high sensitivity troponin I, including validation, care pathway alignment, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Discuss practical insights, lessons learned, and challenges associated with integrating high sensitivity troponin I into existing workflows

One P.A.C.E.® credit-hour will be provided for this complimentary basic level program. Abbott is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program.

This session is approved for one Florida Laboratory CE credit. Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel approved number: 50-12563

This event is produced by Whitehat Communications and sponsored by Abbott Point of Care.
